AMMUT (THE DEVOURER):

Ammut is a demon with the head of a crocodile, the midsection of a leopard, and the hindquarters of a hippopotamus. She is the "Devourer of Hearts" in the Underworld. When a dead person's soul is found wanting after being weighed by Anubis and judged by Osirus, it is thrown to her to eat. (The Ancient Egyptians thought the heart was the seat of the soul, so she is essentially the "Devourer of Souls.")
